Thanks John! That Escudo is gorgeous!
ANACS gave my 44-D an AU50 Details grade/cleaned.

I used to have an 1850 Moffat & Co. $5 in an OGH PCGS VF20. I made a stupid decision to sell it years ago and am so upset I did
I am going to try to get another some day.

Southsav-that's a pretty expensive piece if not cleaned. Definitely worth the money to get it slabbed. Looks like at least MS62. Possibly a $2000 coin. Nice piece.

Thanks, You think? Seriously, I bought it as a MS 60 a couple years ago. Thought it was a pretty one. Took it to a Baltimore Whitman show last year and a guy told me MS, but what do I know.

Macmercury,

The coin which is my father's (I just did the research and got it conserved and graded) was a Christmas gift he received from his grandfather back in the the 50s. Each grandson got a $50 gold coin (in theory there is another one out there), and each granddaughter got $50 in gold coins.

Here is another one from that Christmas.

Not coins but, from the S.S. Central America side-wheel steamer wreck of 1857. Nuggets were also used in the West for purchases of goods and supplies.

Another one of my favorites. The thread title doesn't say it has to be in coin form.

Jfransch,
Yep, I just stated gold but in the classic U.S. coin section. I put some nuggets which are not coins :-)
So, gold will be gold! Post what you got!
Hope the mod's are okay with it here ;-)
