It's worth it. 50 coins at $1.40 each, you could help alot of people fill album holes at close to melt and make it worth while. I know I have more holes in the War Nickel era to fill than I would like. So I know you could do it quite easily. Report this Post to the Staff
mkfarm Pillar of the Community United States 667 Posts	Posted 08/19/2011 2:46 pm Must not be a lot of bullion people on the section. War Nickles are now being bought for $37.73 at $1.00 face. So if you are going to buy at $1.40 you are paying $28. I sold 655 to APMEX on Monday I was in a hurry so I settled for $34.23 at $1.00 face for a total of $1,121. BILL99 Valued Member United States 63 Posts	Posted 08/19/2011 7:15 pm 655 nickles for a total of $1,121 = $1.71 each Silver Value 1942-1945 Nickel = $2.4137 so that's is 70% of actual Silver Value ... what % of actual Silver Value paid on dimes? dimes are $3.1033 today 70% for Silver Nickels seems lower that other silver coins Report this Post to the Staff
mkfarm Pillar of the Community United States 667 Posts	Posted 08/19/2011 10:21 pm Bill I did the math fast but I believe each nickle was worth $2.15, silver was at $38.30 when I sold them. So I sold them for 80%. I bought these when silver was just under $5.00 so I made more than enough on them to let them go. Report this Post to the Staff
googoo Valued Member United States 466 Posts	Posted 08/20/2011 07:49 am I see War Nickels in bargain bins at the one coin show I attend for like 1.25 a piece I always forget to write down which ones I need though then again if I am going to buy the coins I would rather get nicer coins rather then dark circulated War Nickels plus I am 5 coins away from a circulated set. Based on melt value it might be a good investment you wouldn't lose money, so I would jump on it Report this Post to the Staff
