What you have there is considered by experts to be the oldest known Challenge Coin. Those who disagree, I Challenge you to find one older. Other people also have one of these, and they can be found on ebay occasionally. They typically sell for about $200. Sincerely, Jesse http://ChallengeCoinAssociation.org

I picked up this one at a coin show this weekend. It measures 21.3 mm and 4.74 g. Challenge Coin: 17th INF Korea 1950-1953 Buffalo 1812

I crossed paths with the 17th at Fort Ord, CA back in the late '70s.

Quote: Is this the proper thread for challenge coins? If they are 17th INF Korea Buffalo challenge coins, the answer is yes. If not, then the answer is no. The title says it all.

Looks like this topic was moved, perhaps?
Although called "challenge coins," I thought these items should be considered exonumia, regardless of when they were struck. Was this one struck by the U.S. Mint? Does it possess any governmental coin or monetary value as legal tender? I've never studied or owned one of these. This old guy's confused ...

ExoGuy, I resurrected this topic - it had been dormant since 2006. I suppose that things were a bit different on the CCF back then.

Yes, different then, so it was moved after resurrection. Not immediately, because I forgot. But then I remembered and here it is.
