Since then I have found quite a few. my first one was a Morgan dollar with Doubling in the Liberty on the Obverse. I used to hunt Morgan and Peace dollar VAMS (Van Allen - Mallis Varieties) Then I discovered Eisenhower dollars and the varieties in that series and have been hooked ever since. And have found quite a few very cool varieties and Doubled Dies. And so far they are not that expensive to collect. But I think that time may be coming to an end as there is a lot happening in the Eisenhower world lately. Best of luck in your future hunting Terry |

good find, definately for a first. You will know MD from the real thing with no problem now.

Fantastic find! Cheers to many more! My first was a 1942 walking liberty DDO in MS. It sits in my 7070, with 6 known as listed by CONECA. |

Nice find... but I don't see the don't see the difference in the date. Can anyone help my untrained and unskilled eyes and explain how one can tell this is a double die?

And am sure the more I find the better it will get. Actually went through about 25 steels that I hadn't checked in depth and found a 1943P-1DO-001 (will post pics in the morning). I didn't want to quit for fear of loosing my "hot streak" .... |

MadMortician - I think the toughest part is seeing through the age/wear of the coin - wish mine looked like the one in the pic! lol

Okay, now I'm jealous, what a great find. Aside from the 1917, it's the second most actively searched DDO for early year wheats. |

As promised.... my other find... 1943P 1DO-001, FS: 01-1943-101  not the highest grade specimen, but I was pretty happy non-the-less. I went to the same coin shop where I got my 1936P date roll, and he was "too busy" to grab me another. Said to come back Thursday because he had a large order to put together. I smiled and nodded and went on my merry way, but thinking "Why would you turn away money?" - would have only taken 5-6 minutes at the most as his dates weren't sorted from AU's and below (he prices them differently) just grab 50 AU's and call it a day - I mean you've been doing this for 35 years... should take 5 minutes... *sigh... good thing the flea market is open tomorrow so I can feed my hunger!  |
