Interesting Old Box Of Pennies

Ok guys - I hate to keep the anticipation going but I went back....

I think I was just in shock yesterday and was super appreciative I even got what I did so I didn't ask any questions. I have an amazing local branch and never want to come off as selfish or stingy as other customers may also need to get coins. I know some people go crazy and get hundreds of dollars in change, I usually stick to $20-40 because they have explained they always need to have some on hand for others so I definitely understand and respect that.

Anyway I asked if they had any more and I was able to obtain "the final box they had." It's another box that looks exactly the same. Except this one seems more focused in the 1970's. I also had a partial roll of steel cents which was odd but I am certainty not complaining about missing 10 coins in a roll given the overall situation.

Give me some time as it could take several weeks if not longer before I get around to going through things. We had a major life trauma a few years ago and are now expecting a baby again very soon. We have a lot to prepare for mentally as well as other things that need to be done to get ready. I will keep you all posted as I get into this.

My final ask for now is still just a good recommendation for a microscope. I also have some 2024 cents that were sold as DDOs and DDRs but I need a better way to identify them. I'd love to be able to also share some of my findings so something take takes pics would be ideal!

Personally, I do most of my CRH with a loop.
For two reasons:
A) I can manipulate changing the angle I'm looking at the coin. Sometimes, a slight angle (therefore, also a change of lighting) can reveal something which you may not see if only looking straight on with a scope. I often angle a coin slightly under the scope also, to see / photograph.
B) I'm sort of the opinion that, if I can't see it with a loop, it's not worth it to me to keep.
All that said, I've upgraded several times from a $19.00 scope to my current Elikliv EM4K. More than sufficient for my level of searching.

This story just keeps getting better. I went back....again. Although I thought it was the final box last time, they had a few more and I was able to snag those. All in , I'm at $40 in the boxes and some loose rolls. Definitely the greatest score in my decade of CRH. Final counts.

Maybe I will crack them open for errors or high MS coins someday but I hate to open them.. this was a KILLER HAUL!!! Definitely the most excitement I've had CRHing!

I would have a hard time not opening the 72P and 84P rolls.

This story isn't over quite yet. I had some time to go through the 10 rolls of circulated wheats I mentioned above this weekend. I was wrong.. they weren't just common dates from the 30's to 50's. For whatever reason whoever turned these in didn't sort them whatsoever. This is almost borderline unbelievable but I swear it's true! Here were my findings...

I probably went a little crazy with the 2x2 (like did the 37-D's really need to be in a 2x2 LOL) but I wanted to remember this find. The ones I put in 2x2's had lower mintage so that's why I pulled several of those 30's dates out from the rolled coins to save separate. I hope you all enjoyed this story - I still can't believe it happened. The only thing that could make this even more sweet would be if I can pull some high MS or rare error coin if I ever open up the OBWs. I couldn't believe I found a 1909 VDB, with my luck in this haul I'm surprised it wasn't a 1909-S VDB!!
