Nikon Af Nikor Lens Question - Coin Community Forum

CherreePicker Valued Member 440 Posts	Posted 03/11/2014 09:32 am I have a Nikon AF Nikor 28-105 mm 1:3.5-4.5D lens with the switch that goes from Normal to Macro. Lens currently sits on a Nikon N70 film camera. Does this lens have any capability for coin photograpy & can I utilize it in manual mode on my Canon Rebel EOS? SsuperDdave Moderator United States 23522 Posts	Posted 03/11/2014 12:54 pm A little research indicates it's a quality lens, and might not be too bad at imaging large coins. However, best magnification is 1:2, meaning you'll be able to fill the sensor with a Morgan dollar but nothing smaller. On a Canon it's manual-focus only, of course, but adapters should be easy to find. You'd need to add extension tubes for any real magnification. I'd call it "fun to play with but not a serious solution" for coin imaging. They're known to be quality lenses, popular among photographers, and sell pretty easily on the 'Bay for $200-ish.
