I recently acquired this coin and when I received it, I noticed this red coloring. It doesn't look like its traces from the original finish. Any toughts? I can't find info on any website. Thanks.

Is it on both sides?

Yes its on both sides but it doesn't come out clearly in the pictures I took. It doesn't look like its copper though.

PMD. Paint or ink. It's worn through on the high areas and remains in the protected areas.

The coin looks circulated, you really are not going to hurt it if you gently remove the red with an acetone-soaked Q-tip...

Thanks for the quick responses. Paint was what I was afraid of when I saw it. I might try the acetone thing eventually, nothing to lose anymore I guess and it came as a bonus item in an auction.
