Kennedy Half Dollars

I know halves are scarce, but imagine how surprised I was when twice I asked my bank for halves, only to be told they don't have them. I asked about ordering, and they said they don't stock them, or keep them, or carry them - some such word.

If they don't have a mint mark they are Philadelphia mint. 71's and 74's are probably the most populous in circulation. Look on the rear for the designers initials FG in between the left leg and the tail feathers. If they're missing you might get a few bucks or it's neat to have. Don't get excited if you find what looks like doubling of the lettering on the reverse as this Mechanical Doubling and not true doubling. They're worth $.50. As Patrick said watch for the "S" mint mark. When you unwrap a roll look on the edges as silver should but not always show as dull silver or whitish look completely across the edge. You can see the copper in the center on the edge. Look for the 1965-1969 as they are silver clad. Rejoice if you find a 1970.
