This piece is also a very small coin (16mm), and this is not easy to spot. The mintage of the 1940 date was 5.010.000. I guess there are not many of the one you have here, but I have seen it listed on auctions in Norway. I have another Norwegian coin which has a strange anomaly. 5 Ore 1945 made of iron. This is a rather rare coin, mintage 408.000 and there are unfortunately Chinese copies out there. This one is to my knowledge genuine and has a very peculiar anomaly. I purchased it from a well known auction house. See the inverted date printed on the other side (the second photo). Report this Post to the Staff

It's been war out there when those were minted, so I guess the quality control department might have not really been in place by then... I disagree with the minter doing his job trice, as most Norwegians I know wouldn't do anything that gets them tired at work. Hence we're known to be very efficient workers.
