ANA - This next episode in the Introduction to Counterfeit Detection & Alteration forum is focused on common mistakes and risk factors collectors should consider. Instructor Brian Silliman focuses on how people are tempted to look at a coin and discuss all of the good qualities, but ignore the "but" issues they see, such as cleaning, staining, whizzing, etc. In other words, the most common mistake is buying a coin you shouldn't have bought in the first place, ignoring the possibility of grading issues, authenticity, and/or conservation issues.
Instructors Brian Silliman began as an intern at the American Numismatic Association, he worked 11 years at NGC and 5 years at Panda America. He's also a consultant for federal law enforcement. Jim Robinson works at APMEX, 19 years and counting. His knowledge focus is in bullion and numismatics and is a 9th year co-instructor for the Summer Seminar Counterfeit Course.
