1873 $2.5 Liberty Closed 3 "l" Stamp? Help Please

Golds101 New Member United States 11 Posts	Posted 12/13/2019 02:18 am Hi all, Was wondering if yal could give me some info and your thoughts about a coin I have. It's a 1873 Closed 3 $2.5 liberty head. Its interesting as it has an "L" stamped on it. Does this mean "Light?" Any info on this coin or thoughts would be much appreciated. From some research of counter stamps some people collect these but are a bit more detailed than one letter. Thoughts? Report this Post to the Staff

This doesn't change the fact that the coin is damaged, but it's odd that the reverse shows very little distortion in the corresponding area of the counter stamp. There's a small round hit at the K:1 position that shows as a flattened star on the reverse, but the L doesn't really show much. It may be that the eagle is flat so it covers up the L's shape. Did anyone else notice that? @Golds101 what does the coin weigh? ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!
