I'm starting to think it might be a split in the copper plating and when it was washed the solution might've started some rot. So then I guess if that's the case, are they defective planchets then, or just junk? Report this Post to the Staff

It may have been something else but looks like extreme heat of some sort. You get about 800 degrees from a match and that would definitely split the plating. Fdock9 New Member United States 49 Posts	Posted 03/05/2022 4:00 pm While I can see how you might think it's a match burn I can assure you that unless the mint, or the federal reserve, and or brinks burned the coins, then I'm sure it's not a match burn but out of 10,000 2022 pennies checked only 2 had these marks. here's the second one.
