1889 Indian Head Cent - Coin Community Forum

shuddle10 New Member United States 48 Posts	Posted 07/21/2023 3:28 pm This 1889 Cent might still have the most detail under the dirt and tarnish compared to the 20 or so Indian Heads I have from 1862 to 1907. There are headdress feathers and other detail coming through. Should it be cleaned? My intention is to sell it but I don't want to devalue it. Any ideas what it is worth? Thanks! I have seen a few Indian Heads at Heritage up for auction that have been harshly cleaned and disclose it up front listed for around $200 $300. Others that have not been cleaned and in pretty worn out condition starting bids are around $400. Not saying I would get anything for this coin, it does look pitted and that's a shame because it could've been a nice coin if it didn't look retrieved from a wishing fountain. I have others I think that would do well and see what the auction house I bring the collection to would do with this one. The Coin World is mixed with so much varying information to navigate.
