1929 National Bank Note Size - Coin Community Forum

CarolinaCoinGuy New Member United States 24 Posts	Posted 10/19/2010 7:12 pm Hey all! I just purchased a 1929 National Bank Note. It is a "small sized" note, but it is slightly wider than the federal reserve notes and silver certificates I have (about 1/8 inch wider; the printed area is slightly wider too). Is this normal? The paper looks and feels right, but I want to be sure I haven't been had! Report this Post to the Staff

I have a 1929 national and I measured it and it is 6 1/8 in. wide x 2 5/8 in. tall with a printed are of 5 7/8 in. wide x 2 7/16 in. tall. Hope that helps. Edit: Mine is a ten dollar note btw. Nickelman Pillar of the Community United States 1397 Posts	Posted 10/19/2010 8:02 pm I'm certainly no expert on these matters, I suppose the difference in the print area could easily be explained by two different denominations, but I would think the paper size should be the same. Once again though, printing of notes has produced a lot of odd things. I have found modern notes that the paper size isn't exactly the same so I would have to believe in the 30's that the technology wasn't as advanced and could produce such a difference. My suggestion would be to take it to a dealer and ask them to look at it for you. Report this Post to the Staff

monkeyman67 Valued Member United States 439 Posts	Posted 10/20/2010 3:38 pm Wouldn't the fact that the sheets were stacked then cut affect the size? The bottom would be slightly different from the top. I think that happens today when they cut fabric, some shirts and pants are bigger or smaller even though they are the same brand.
