Is My 1984 Lincoln Penny An Error? - Coin Community Forum

Wmercer84 New Member United States 5 Posts	Posted 08/21/2011 9:39 pm Is my 1984 Lincoln Penny with "O" stamped above the word "Liberty" an error? Started looking at some coins and noticed this one had the "O" mint mark stamped above the word liberty, instead of below the date. I cant find any pictures of a 1984 online with this same stamping. If this one was from Denver or San Francisco (proofs only) it would have a D or S under the date. This one has neither, so its from Philadelphia. As for what that mark is exactly, looks like post-mint damage, not an error, but I'm not 100 percent sure. Closer pictures of the mark would help. Wmercer84 New Member United States 5 Posts	Posted 08/21/2011 10:31 pm I posted a closer picture, as best as the camera would let. Its raised the same as the letters and date. Does not appear to be post mint damage from magnifying glass close up. Looks Like an O, maybe D. Report this Post to the Staff
hockingzig Pillar of the Community United States 1450 Posts	Posted 08/21/2011 10:34 pm May be a burst zinc bubble. Sometimes the plating separates from the zinc and a bubble forms. If it bursts and then gets worn down it can look like what you have. Report this Post to the Staff

Ricardocody Pillar of the Community United States 1204 Posts	Posted 08/22/2011 03:19 am I have no words to explain but is kind of a quimical reaction on the zinc under the copper plate kind of corrosion that makes the the plate rise and most of the time causing holes , I think some call it zincroach !
