Looks mostly original, but perhaps a patch of old cleaning on the obverse. A few nicks too, but overall pretty nice. Report this Post to the Staff

I am not even sure that it has been cleaned, it may just be circulation scratches as Nod indicated Report this Post to the Staff
Jaobler Pillar of the Community United States 6399 Posts	Posted 10/05/2011 01:23 am I would call it F-15 at best. LIBERTY is fading and there is no face or hair detail on Miss Liberty. Denticles are weak on both sides and the edge reeding is likewise not very distinct. On the reverse the eagle head detail is very weak and I'm bothered by the weak letters in STATES OF and QUAR DOL. It almost looks like these areas are lightly corroded ("environmental damage"). I wanted this date because it seems very scarce and somewhat undervalued. I bid on this example based on small images and the seller's claim of XF grade. If it were a solid VF I'd be satisfied but it doesn't meet that standard IMO. So, back it goes. coinguybrian Rest in Peace United States 5375 Posts	Posted 10/05/2011 03:55 am Jaobler, IMO I would grade this F-12 or F-15 for other dates, but these 1839's are often struck really weird and whatnot. I've seen graded VF-XF coins lacking a lot of detail in some of the places you mentioned. No way this is XF though. Report this Post to the Staff
