Hello, I'm from Croatia. I'm new to philately and numismatics. I found a coin collection of my grandfather and two coins caught my attention. The first coin is from BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA, DATE : 1998, 50 FENING, Picture 1, and the second is much older from AUSTRIA, DATE :1864 B, FRANZ JOSEPH I., 4 KREUZER, Picture 2. Now what is interesting about them is that they have possible error. First coin from Bosnia has an unusual date number, the second digit 9 with a filled bowl. Second coin from AUSTRIA has no denomination number 4. I'm not quite sure is this an error during the die struck process or is it just ware over a period of time, but I can't see any outlines of number 4, surface is absolutely flat and the rest of the relief is fairly intact. So please, if anyone has an idea how much they could be worth, some approximate value. Please share some of your expertise and feedback, I would be vary thankful.

I can't remember the name of the first coin, but it is a genuine mint error. Die chip? The second one could be Struck Through Grease, but it seems odd that it would only affect the denomination. The way you described it (flat surfaces and all,) it sound like a struck through error. -oddcoins

Those were my exact thoughts, chip is your bowl. I enlarged the '64, and is that the bottom (base) of the "4" I see, directly above the "6" in date? Certainly is interesting. And, welcome!

Thanks for sharing thoughts, if someone wants a higher resolution pictures, I can send them, for better magnification, I personally can see any outline from 4, and if someone has some idea to where I could send them for possible evaluation. I'm new to this so.., And sorry in case of a bad grammer, I'm still in the process of learning.

The Bosnian coin is made of plated steel. I'm always cautions about declaring raised bumps on plated coins as "errors", because such bumps can also be caused by a pinhole in the plating allowing corrosion in the underlying steel to blister up. And unfortunately, your "4 kreuzer" is not a genuine coin; it's a replica. Compare your coin with pictures of genuine 1864 4 kreuzer coins, such as on this page. Some significant differences in detail stand out: - the circle of dots around the rim on both sides is much finer on the genuine coin. - the lettering of the obverse legend is much "taller" - it takes up much more space between the eagle and the rim. I suspect your piece never had the "4" there; presumably it was a privately-made medal or token.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
