Fake/Fake/Counterfeit PCGS Slabs - Coin Community Forum

newportnavyboy New Member United States 48 Posts	Posted 03/06/2017 6:18 pm I have recently purchased a couple of PCGS graded coins at an Online auction. Upon looking at them, it seems that the slabs have small "chipped" edges or nicks. This appears on the reverse side of the slab and in the "corner" region of the slab... it is not on the sides- or edges of the slab itself, but is on the "raised edging" of the slab that "holds" and connects slabs together..... now, these are contemporary coins, so I can't imagine them as fake or counterfeit--maybe inflated graded...... Has anyone seen this on items? --is it common? -I think not, just a thin plastic spot? Thanks for your thoughts and input---and I'm trying to upload pics Report this Post to the Staff

Mark1959 Pillar of the Community 7234 Posts	Posted 03/06/2017 6:49 pm The holders are sonicaly sealed. Kind of like melting the 2 1/2 holders together with the coin in it. There are always rules to the exception but splitting the holder apart would be pretty much impossible without creating more damage to it than just a few small chips. Report this Post to the Staff

basebal21 Bedrock of the Community 13014 Posts	Posted 03/07/2017 07:54 am The stacking bars and tabs chipping isn't uncommon coming from auction houses. Most slabs won't have it but any time the slab has been through a high volume environment the chance of it happening goes up. The coin itself and the seal on it is perfectly fine if that's all that chips off, just a little annoying stacking them Report this Post to the Staff
