mklpatrick Pillar of the Community United States 580 Posts	Posted 07/23/2008 3:37 pm I don't have a pic of it just yet (OK, actually I do now), but I got a Morgan off ebay and the pic posted was obviously a scan. In my hand with a 10x loupe and pretty good light I see a series of faint hairline scratches across the face and left field on the obverse. Should I automatically assume that it has been cleaned? I know a pic helps and I will try and post it soon! Annnnnd here's the pic! See how the hairlines move at a 45 degree angle and descend from left to right? Perhaps that is just wear from circulation? zerozero Valued Member United States 75 Posts	Posted 07/23/2008 4:19 pm Without seeing the coin I'd say if the hairline scratches are parallel to each other then it's probably been whizzed. I've noticed you can see these a lot better outside in natural (full spectrum) sunlight. Good luck. Report this Post to the Staff

Usually, a deliberate cleaning leaves evidence in the tight nooks and crannies - not all of the crud gets removed by the process. Inside the letters and denticles, tight corners on the devices, places like that. This coin shows none of that. Of course, it's not certain without the coin in-hand, but my guess is this one hasn't been deliberately brushed. Report this Post to the Staff
