I have a penny, it looks just like this here:

1952-2002-Canadian-Penny-With-A-

except there's a "P" under the date. What is the significance of this? Is this a rarity?

Thanks, my kid is starting a coin album. Currently looking to purchase Canadian & Amercian coin albums to fill.

From 2001 on, the P is for Plated steel (magnetic), and 1c coins without the P are plated zinc (non-magnetic). In 2006, some plated steel blanks were minted without the P, and today they are worth quite a bit (if you can find one).

Thank you all for the info!

So, the 2002 penny is worth the same, with or without the "P", that's correct?
