Someone was attempting to do who knows what with either a file or rotary tool. This was the end result. Its what is referred to as PMD (post mint damage). Report this Post to the Staff

In the past, we have seen such work on cents that were transformed into pastry cutter wheels, but those had a central hole added. One possibility is that it may have been cut to approximate the spacing of teeth in a gear or the spacing of links in a chain. It could have been used to scrape dirt or gunk from the gear or chain.
