Hello friends, thanks for the add to this forum. I found a 1974 dime with a reversed R stamped above the first A in Canada. I would like to hear from some folks that might have some insight into this dime...how it happened, rarity, value. Thanks,. looking forward to hearing from you all.  |

 Can you please post photos of the front and back so we can see the whole coin? Is the 'R' raised or sunken? Typically this is a vise job, so post-mint damage... |

 if it is impressed into the coin it's some sort of vise job. If raised I have no idea. |

Hi guys,. thanks for the replies. I will post a few more photos in a minute..I'm still learning how to use this site lol. The R is definitely raised, it's a mystery to me as well.

Sure looks like a reversed R. Could it have been a dropped letter that got stamped into the surface somehow?

Could be glue or something. Try soaking it in acetone.
The rim is flat/squished where the 'R' is and it's reversed.
That can't happen during the minting process.

To the CCF Don't really know how it happened but can't see any way it could happen when the coin was struck. I first thought it might be a dropped letter but there is no corresponding "R" on the coin. There is also damage on the Obverse in the same spot. For now I will have to say it is some sort of PMDPS Please do not use screen shots, they are too pixilated to see any fine detail. |

Thanks all for weighing in, I'm new to errors and don't know a great deal about them. There has been a lot of back and forth over this coin on another site as well. I found it in a coin roll and have no idea of where it has been. I do find it odd that someone would go to the trouble of creating some sort of die to press a single R into the rim, circulate it and forty plus years later it ends up in my hands.
I'll try to get some better pictures put up later
