Hell Friends, Happy weekend, picked up this 1833 large cent which appears to be a nice F or borderline VF grade and more interestingly it looks like the rare N4 variety. Would appreciate if you can pass on your thoughts on the grade and it's N variety. Thanks a lot

I'd say F-15, and yes, N-4 looks correct.

OK, why cleaned? Too much luster?

Vertical hairline scratches on Liberty's face and the glossy look are cleaning indicators, but the impairment seems minor. I wouldn't be shocked to see this coin in a no-problem VF-20 slab.

So, how scarce is the N-4 variety?

Thanks guys. I don't have the coin in hand yet but hoping for a straight grade. A 1833 N4 cent with a Cud break fetched 6400$ see link below, but realistically I think this is a 200$ coin.

Blotchy color. Looks like it is starting to tone down from the cleaning.

Got the coin in hand and glad I took a chance on this coin. Looks original and uncleanned in my eyes. Any chance of VF for this coin?

I think it is a strong fine, so a VF-20 would not shock me.

The obverse looks like it might make VF, but I think the reverse would hold it to F-15. Nice coin!
