My question is, do you think it's possible to put together a complete year/mm set of LMCs, ALL with "wood grain" toning?
I thought I had read about someone doing it, or working on it, here before, but it seems like a very hard task. I don't know if I've EVER seen a zinc cent with w/g toning, and the only copper cents I find a lot of are the 1980-1982's. Did I imagine this, or do you think it's possible?
Also, feel free to post up pics of those nice wood-grain cents!

I don't that would be possible because all post-1982 LMC are copper coated. |

I just don't see woodgraining on many Memorial cents, especially the copper plated ones. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen it on a plated cent.

What jbuck? Come on! I've seen many copper LMC's with wood grain, but it's almost always very weak. I found this one last week, it's the first time I've ever seen wood graining this strong on a Memorial cent:   Lincoln Cent Lover!VERDI-CARE™ INVENTOR https://verdi.care/

Woodgraining is usually the result of the metals not alloying (mixing) properly. In the case of Lincoln cents the metals are copper, tin, and/or zinc. |

Yes, jbuck, I think that's where I saw it.
I was just curious of opinions, since about all I find are 1980, 1981, and 1982 LMCs with w/g toning, occasionally one from the 70's. I think it would be pretty cool to put together a set of copper LMCs, though. (1959-1982) I think that may be possible with some patience. Maybe get all your buddies to save them for you.

Anyone got pics of wood-grain LMCs NOT from the 80's? Or maybe a Zincoln?

Since the plating on a Zincoln is pure copper, it should technically be impossible to have a woodgrain Zincoln since woodgrain is an alloy-based issue.

That makes sense. I dug around a little and found a 1977 D with good w/g lines, and a 1967 with lines that are barely visible. Other than those, all 80's.

Indeed! The chances are slim to none since the plating is applied electrochemically from a copper solution. |

I think I have my first wood grain LMC!  It is a 1980 I picked up in change this week. It is very faint, but noticeable. I am still working on getting a decent photo for the Community to confirm or deny it.  |
