Brand spanking new to the forum and the half dollar hunters! A very good friend of mine shared this website with me and love to read the "finds" that people get. He gave me the ins and outs on where and where not to find the halves.

Tried my luck at a small town bank where my son goes to school. Asked the teller if they had any halves that I could buy. Her eyes widened and she thought I was santa clause asking to take them off her hands. She pulled the bag right off the coin counter and dumped them right infront of me, $365 worth.

Went thru them later that day, 10 winners! 2 1964's, 4 67's and 4 69's.

Getting 2 boxes from Wells Fargo within the next couple days. Will let you know what I find....

Get ready for lots of highs and lows. Boxes are not a sure fire way to find silver, but when the boxes are good its great. When they are skunks, it really stinks dumping all that clad. Once you make your rounds on banks in your area and compete on a daily basis with other silver hunters, it can get pretty scarace. The victories are finding those 5 rolls grandma brought in this moring and the losses are when a teller tells you she just sold all her halves to another person 5 minutes ago. Welcome to a hobby worse than a crack addiction!

Truer words have not been spoken in some time !
When you score "Silver" it is likened to "Gold Fever" from way back in the 1800's ! This "bug" is an incredible feeling !
But when you spend thousands of dollars (all returned clad) and come up with N.O.T.H.I.N.G. .......it REALLY REALLY really stinks !!
But, it's persistence that will pay dividends I'm sure !

When the slow times come(and they will) it has always helped me to have a collection to be trying to complete as well as finding silver to keep you going. I also keep ALL high quality condition coins I find because they will always have premium value down the road. The last bit of advice, look at it as a treasure hunt, not an investment strategy and enjoy the coins you find. Study them and learn all you can about them because the more you learn, the more discriminating you will be in what you keep and what you dump and you will not pass up errors or varieties in the race for silver. Enjoy the journey as well as the destination.
