Prices for 2020-s thru 2023-s are only a couple bucks, 2025-S is around $6 with the 2026-s around $15. Yet all the 2024-S I am seeing on ebay are $50 or more. Something seems off with this one. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum.  ***Edited by IndianGoldEagle

Be patient, prices should drop once the clad proof set is released. The late release of the clad set is keeping the available supply relatively low.

I don't know about the clad version but the 2024 silver proof set is very expensive for what it is. Perhaps that's part of the mystery for why the 2024 nickel proof costs so much. But $50 sounds extreme. Set up a deal alert and you may find a good price eventually. It took me about a year of waiting but I recently picked up a full silver 2024 proof set for about half the going rate.

So there is no clad 2024-S proof set? If only a silver set was released in 2024 that would make sense. I was unaware of that. Thanks for responding.

It is 2026, that is the clad set still pending. The 2024 clad proof set was released in 2024 and 355,786 sets were sold along with 170,435 Silver proof sets. That means there are 506,221 2024-S proof nickels out there.  |

It seems like patience is advisable. Sold listings go from $20 for a fully graded PCGS or NGC coin. You don't need to pay $50 for a raw coin.

This is one of the reasons why I don't have the 2024 s proof nickel as well.
And for 50 dollars, I'm not gonna have it any time soon either. Lol.

It does also seem to be the consensus that 2024 was "lower mintage" year to some degree, even with millions minted. This I am assuming is also probably driving up the prices. If I am looking at these figures correctly, the 2024 Jefferson nickelsare the third lowest mintage year for the series. 1950, 2009 and 2024 seem to be the lowest mintage years. |

The lower mintage numbers for 2009 and 2024 is for Philadelphia and Denver business strike nickels intended for circulation. In 2024, for example, mintage was around 80M, compared to 10x that amount in 2023. However, business strike coins have nothing to do with the San Francisco proof nickel strikes. Those mintages, around 300-400k, have been stable for several years. The current lower availability could be caused by many factors, but mintage probably isn't one of them. I would speculate that the proof sets are not yet being sliced apart in bulk and sold. |

However, it doesn't mean sellers aren't using the opportunity to capitalize on the fact that 2024 for nickels, regardless of mint location, is generally a lower mintage year. Any way to make more money. There is no reason in the world why a 2024 CLAD Jefferson nickel should be 50 dollars. Should easily be 10 bucks or even under that. All my other proofs for Jefferson nickels after 2006 have been like 5-7 bucks or maybe even less then that. Edited by Humanist1287
