Wheat - nice pickup. We tend to think of Treasury Notes as a standard large-size note category, but in fact they were only issued in the 1890/1891 series in denominations of $1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 (the "Watermelon" note), 500 and 1,000 (the "Grand Watermelon" note). They were first issued in 1890 and discontinued, I believe, in 1905.

I'm new to the world of currency but a long time collector of coins. I've decided to do a type set of the $1 and began with this one. Not the best of shape but it'll do for me.

Great place to start @Kervo22, with a series 1862 Legal Tender, our very first official one dollar bill.
Yours appears to be an Fr.16 (series 283) with a portrait of Treasury Secretary Salmon P. Chase and the wonderful Spinner signature. It has some tears, and most likely some pinholes, but overall nice eye appeal. Welcome to the dark side.......coin collectors red haired stepchild. (currency collecting)

Cool fact - The second to last confederate note is actually an error note. The notes was released into circulation with the date Sept. 2 1862 when in fact the note was made Sept 2 1861. The CSA released the notes into circulation anyways.
