He is definitely one of the most interesting historical figures I've had the pleasure to read about. A lunch with him would be fascinating.

This note was printed when I was in high school. Believe me I didn't see many of them back then.

I acquired this note before getting the United States Department of the Treasury Invitation. The new "large portrait" design change was significant. The portrait was enlarged and shifted left of center leaving room for the newly added watermark. The changes also included a two letter prefix to the serial number and the Federal Reserve Letter was removed from the black Fed Seal along with other minor changes. The note pictured below is an example of what the invitees would have been shown at the unveiling of the new currency design. The Chicago $100 star note was printed in early 1998. That cool $100 that YB posted was an example of the old design that was used for many, many years.  Edited by SteveInTampa

Tylosaurus in another thread, asked about the future of currency collecting. I can say for myself it is quite active and interesting. I got this $20 series 1928 gold certificate yesterday. The last one with a gold seal actually issued. A little over 66 million issued and there are lots of them available on ebay. I have a $10 of the same type and would love to get a $50, but I will have to save up a lot to one in decent shape.  |

Nice example, looks VF or perhaps better. I am always amazed how many GC's survived despite the mandated 1933 recall, which was not rescinded for more than 30 years. Basically, every GC we see today was under cover and in private hands during that entire span. Even after these were legalized (though no longer convertible to gold) for ownership in 1964, I never found one in circulation.
