Post Your New Currency Acquisitions!

Picked this up last week, nice fresh note with clear paper wave, bright coloring and good centering.

Not a tough note, of course, but I'm putting together the 12-district set and the price was right.

When my old laptop died last winter, my only access was with my Tablet, and as luck would have it, CCF was the only website where I couldn't post any photos from my Tablet.

Now that I'm back online with another laptop, I can now post photos of my ebay purchases from the last 9 months.

Working backwards, my recent purchase was this Tom's United States Currency book with all 12 Series 1963 districts included (11 mules - under 447). Paid $35 for the set & $7 Priority delivery.















Next was a set of 3 C/U series 1977A E-H Block $1 FRN's (same Block as the Natick Run) and one $10 E-B Block note from Run 41. I purchased these to use in testing the Crane vs Natick Security Paper the BEP used in the Aug. 1981 experimental printing.

I now need one note from each Run #37 to 40 & #42 to 50 for forensic research to confirm no Richmond District $10 E-B Block Notes had been printed on Natick Paper.

I'm still in the process of searching for answers directly from Natick Labs, and recently submitted a FOIA request, requesting all additional information not outlined in the 1980 Contract between Treasury & Natick Labs.

I do have some information to go on, and will be removing the Natick Error from the PCGS holder shortly for testing





This 1988A cutting error is from one of the better Districts, and after advising the ebay seller it was a genuine cutting error, and not one of the many fakes, I placed a $40 bid just to get it going. I was surprised the under bidder continued bidding $1 at a time till they reached my maximum bid of $40. then stopped placing bids.

At $40 it is still a good price, and believe I could double or triple it should I list it on one of the Facebook Groups.








Here are both a Vertical & Horizontal cutting errors.





Next was a 1935E Printed Fold error sold raw.

Printed Fold Errors are usually from one of the four outside corner notes of the sheet.
This note was from a 18 subject sheet, with the four Corner Plate Positions being "A" ""F" "M" & "R"

This Error is Plate Position "Q" (17th position) instead of "R".

Diagnostics show that this Sheets 18th Note, Serial Number S06487996G - Plate Position "R" was serialed on the left side only, the location of the lower right fold prevented the right side of the notes overprinting, thus no serial number, blue seal and series date. I would not be surprised if this note is in someone's collection (providing it entered circulation)







This was the primary reason for selling some Silver lots on CCF last December. ebay had 2 different Sellers selling Inverted Overprints without the "Web-Note" notation, and I jumped on both.







I don't remember what I paid for this PCGS Mismatched Serial Number Note, but do know it was an excellent price.



When I switched over to collecting errors almost 20 years ago, I decided to also include other Nations.

This was one of my better decisions as I now had access to ebay's International Sites showing errors not listed here in the U.S., and could purchase many at pennies on the Dollar.

Here are 2 Inverted Overprints recently purchased from Brazil.



Next was 2 Notes from Venezuela.
The top note is a "Z" Replacement Note & a rare Double Error Note (the ebay listing failed to mention it was also a mis-matched serial number error.





When searching Philippines Notes for errors, I found 2 great examples, the 1st a Printed Fold Error





Followed by a multiple serial number error that if found on a U.S. Note, would be valued quite high. In my years of searching, I believe they are just as rare as the American errors, exception being that when locating them you pay pennies on the Dollar.

For comparison, here are my 2 Pakistan Double Serial Number errors I purchased in 2007 on top of 1 of 3 different price values listed for American same type errors.







This India Double serial number error was listed on ebay's United Kingdom site, and I had to wait almost a month for the seller to go back to India and send me the note.

This, like my Pakistan multiple prefix serial number error, I believe will prove to be rarer then any USA double serial number error (I do hope I'm proved wrong in thinking this).



This is ALMOST the end of my purchases since last December.

This thread has been in my Draft folder for awhile (on my laptop & here on ccf), and my latest purchase was the most I have ever paid for a non-error piece of currency, and deserves to be in its own thread.

Wait till you see my non-error I just received a few days ago.

While I admit I never really searched for solid Serial Number Notes on ebay, this was the first time I have ever seen one printed on a Web.

Thumbing through my signed copy of The Standard Handbook of Web-Press Test Notes, they list all the solid serial numbers printed for all 3 Series, but no photos of a solid is in the book, the closest serial pictured on 'Notes Of Note' is Series 1988A F84444444L.

My motivation for having this Solid was two fold, first to include a photo of the note with my other photos in my indexed Handbook, and the 2nd was that I was surprised to see no solids were listed under $1 Series of 1995 in Robert Azpiazu's Modern Federal Reserve Notes 1963 - 2009 Book.






Since this wasn't a planned purchase, and not a error, my motivation for owning this note is over now and it's time to find a new home.

The Centerpiece of my Global Error Collection is the 2003D quadstruck Lincoln Cent for Coins & for Currency, this Triple Serial Numbers Error Note.

With that said, and after viewing DavidUK;s American Fractional Note above (what I used to collect before switching over to errors), thought I would repost the rarest error I own here (in the wrong forum) in case he missed it on the other forum a few years back.








In the 11 years since purchasing this, no second example from the sheet of 40 Notes have yet to surface.

This Note received the 3rd set of Serial Numbers over the Inspectors Rejection Marks.

Thinking about posting it again in the correct Forum, and this time include the emails from the Bank of England on the results of their investigation, and required changes by the Notes Printer so no rejected sheets can enter 'good work' again.
