Here's a "surprise" acquisition; you know when you place a marginal bid and then sort of get busy and forget about it until you receive the "You've Won" email arrives. So here's the surprise:

A recent addition to my collection. These are not too plentiful in any condition apparently. Some staining on the back kept it affordable.

I like the Cleveland too. How much should one expect to spend to acquire one of those in good condition?

Some clean notes, nothing quite so high grade for me but I still continue to fill some holes...

A couple of 25 cents notes, one from a British seller and one from an American seller (who seems to have other notes I need so I was testing the waters on his shipping method, the not arrived without any customs problems so I may use again)










Also I have a trade underway and so I am assured that these two notes are on route to me. I was pleased to have the Hawaii one crossed off as I have been after one rather a while... I still need a $10 and a $5 but its forwards progress.

Its a royal pain in the backside wheat.

Normally there is a handful of fractional notes on ebay (from Europe), usually the most common sort of note. If there are any rarer ones they always seem to be over priced or terrible condition.

I managed to find a few US offerings at London Banknote fair but its really not the focus of that (British notes mainly and mixed world notes... they had some real high end notes but not for me)

Vcoins has a couple of sellers with US notes only a couple this side of the pond, neither offering particular bargains... one from that side wanted to charge about $100 dollars postage on an $80 order, the general attitude was such that I won't do business with him. (Cancelled order without discussion, thought that such postal charges were normal)

On ebay it is pretty difficult to order from the USA and have it financially justify itself. Firstly a huge amount of sellers wont ship, then many charge high postage... aside from that its roulette whether customs gets involved. Purchases are liable to invoke a fee of £7.50 handling with 20% import duty. Given that many declare the highest possible value to cover themselves for a claim if it goes missing that obviously inflates the duty.

In the old days it seemed less of an issue, a couple of now defunkt sellers used to just take a chance and send by standard letter, untracked and undeclared. These always arrived without issue and kept costs down.

Joe - Nice Stanton. He was at the heart of Lincoln's army during the Civil War, quite an interesting historical figure.

Kyle - You should be able to get a $1 "Green Eagle" in VF for $150 or less with patience.

David - Nice pick-ups. I admire your determination.
