I have to admit this topic had me examining the banknotes at the coin show today. I did not buy any, but I was looking.  |

This isn't a recent acquisition, per se, but it's my most recent currency acquisition in that it's the only one, really. But if I was going to do just one, I think it was the right one.

OMG. That $5 Ed. is the exact grade I'm currently looking for !
Extremely Fine with original paper is the sweet spot for this note.

No strong fold or crease. You can tell it was in a wallet at some point. You can also tell it was in that wallet for a very short period of time. I don't know anything about grading currency, but I want to say it's under-graded. The paper quality is like new, which is what gives it the great eye appeal (also the nice clean even margins).

Nice $5 educational. I've seen (and own) graded XF notes that I would think are at least AU, so I feel your pain.

Certainly does look AU, even enlarging the images. And the centering is wonderful for sure.

No pain paying XF money for an AU note :) Very true. I've bought several raw notes as AU only to have them grade XF or lower. One good one was a black eagle I bought as AU/CU that came in as a 66! My lesson, I can't grade higher grade raw notes. |

You're not alone. In any event, I always think submitting any high-grade note (or coin) to a TPG is a crapshoot. I've had lots of experience, with plenty of tears or shrieks of joy to show for it. |
