I have an idea. I am going to work at a grocery store as my first job and stay at the coinstar all day and take ALL the rejects.

Good idea.

All you need to do is make sure you are working the register closest to the machine. I think that is the reason for my lack of success. The same kid is always bagging on that lane. I am almost certain that I have seen him eyeballing that machine.

Silverstackerkid, you're really lucky there! My mom sometimes does the food shopping without me, but whenever that happens, nothing is ever in the Coinstar... I feel like I need to be around and check it myself to get anything good...

Not from the reject slot, but the hopper on the machine was stuck in mid-air, and when I lowered it, there was 37 cents right there! No silver or anything interesting, but hey, it's free money!

I finally learned the trick to getting tellers to have to open the machines at the bank I go to, I managed to find a penny and quarter stuck together in my cup holder and they won't come apart in the counting machines, the tellers have to open the machine to get them back and when they do, they always clean off the magnet and 'trash' tray and pass them to me like they were part of my bucket.

So far, 2 Canadian quarters and a mangled 47-S wheat.

Oh yeah, and a lot of coins I need to hit with a hammer to make usable.

I found a 10 groszy coin that looked like a dime at first yesterday. That's gotta be the funniest name I've ever heard for a coin.

I have never found much good stuff, but last week I DID find a 14K gold necklace charm. Ironically, it was a letter J, which my name starts with.

Dumped $117 of mostly cents the other night for an Amazon gift card:

Coinstar-Finds!-Including-Bank-Counters-And-Other-Machines

Here's what the machine refused after feeding the cap-cap - full through a second time:

Coinstar-Finds!-Including-Bank-Counters-And-Other-Machines

That's 3 zinc rotted cents, one dime that spent a fair bit of time in something corrosive, and 2 cents that were superglued together. Something else got stuck in the machine, but I gave up waiting for it to come out.

Overall, I'm pretty impressed at how few of my coins were rejected after a second pass.
