It sucks when they "upgrade" the Coinstars in your local area... all of the ones we have locally now (I'm in SoCal) seem to no longer reject silver. It's been nearly a year and a half since I found a silver coin (after finding double-digit silver coins every year for 8 straight years before 2024)...

Hi John is there a way to tell by looking at the machine if it has been upgraded ?

After a weeks-long Coinstar drought, finally something besides a crusty zincoln! France 1 Franc 1966
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Twice within a month, a rarity it seems these days. Today at the local grocery store I found $1.01 in common coinage. A couple interesting (but not interesting enough to save) ones; a 1970 quarter and a 1974D penny in pretty decent condition and a 1962 penny. Where else but the USA can one find 63 year old coins in common circulation that even a coin collector would throw back in the wild?

Quote: Hi John is there a way to tell by looking at the machine if it has been upgraded ? Unfortunately, no... as far as I know. However, I did note that right around this time almost a year and a half ago, both of the CVS stores closest to me had their Coinstars removed, and never replaced... Quote:
Bummer.
A true bummer indeed... that said, no one can take away the fact that I am one of the privileged few to find a hoard of silver in the reject tray... hard to believe this was almost 7 1/2 years ago.

Awesome haul, John77! I remember my dad finding 7 90% silver quarters in the reject tray, at a CoinStar. He gave them to me to keep.

I still peek at the Coinstar reject slots near me but it's been a couple years since I found anything worth posting. Glad some of you still have some success!
