One each for Halfcrowns and Florins and both coins are upgrades. 1912 George V Florin, this coin is EF and very shiny, I suspect it was historically cleaned - but a nice tone is coming back. Replaces a very worn coin. This 1918 halfcrown is a different story and is a candidate for an abused coin - seriously - this EF piece was harshly cleaned with silver polish (The blue grey residue I recognise from cleaning trophies) and very harshly, its left an ugly residue which has hardened into a black tone around the edges. The coin is darker and duller than the photo suggests. I got the coin cheap and despite this, it has hardly any wear and still a good coin under that gunk. Report this Post to the Staff

On looking over the coin I discovered what appears to be the B of BRITANNIA Struck over an underlying E? Look at the R in RUM, that looks interesting or fishy and how the UM looks uneven in the line - it was obvious the die setter at the mint was having an off day. Agree with condition, its in that nether region between VF and EF - way too nice for VF but if you called it EF - howls of protest. Incredible how many of my Halfcrowns and Florins are in that grading midline - except mine are mostly George V - ha ha! Report this Post to the Staff

zookeeperz Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 698 Posts	Posted 11/27/2020 09:40 am Two coins from foreign shores which always warms my heart to bring them home to where they belong albeit the latter coin was meant to be in India but still it was a British ruling Monarch so 1 and 1/2 coins lols. First and I really mean this the double florins of queen victoria I would say 90% even more maybe are or have been cleaned to various degrees during their lifetime. Even if you have a keen eye unless the pictures are like NGC/PCGS quality. I have bought countless of them and all appeared top draw coins only to end up lightly cleaned or practically body baggers. More so with EU sellers. For some reason they do like to polish coins. For the first time I have actually got a straight 1. Far nicer than the pictures. Lots of colours going on which sadly never really come forward when using digiscopes 1887 Double Florin .925 silver. Super condition Au+ and an 1835/3 unlisted date error One rupee F/GF. Many varieties on this date some are extremely rare . I have not had time to look this one over yet for type but being an overdate its already rare . Condition is cleaned gVG to almost fine. Glad to have a halfcrown finally of this difficult and hopeless monarch, naive enough to think Religious toleration in the 17th century would fly!
