Yes and the man I beat for it, got me back into collecting and loved the 17th century period. Bidding opened at $110 and went up in $10s, about 7 people started by $230 it was me and him, I got it at $270 (My guess is itsworth around $350 - $500) so happy.
Worried I may have lost a friend, mainly as him and I talked about it for weeks beforehand and he insisted on babysitting it and taking long loving looks at it, as it disappeared into my briefcase.
That is how bereft we are for excitement in New Zealand, a James II halfcrown. If it helps I missed out on HEEEAAAPPPSSS of other stuff there though! And he won a worn but interesting Charles II Crown dated 1662 (The earliest possible year for milled) although that coin was superworn for only $150.

This may anger AndyG a bit, but bid on this last week and forgot about it. My first decent Gothic Florin and its an early one too!   1856 Gothic Florin, condition VF apparently. |

Nice proof there!  From a huge lot of coins I bought, all this was melt price I paid. Its not all junk, there was a nice 1929 Florin in it (close to EF) and 2 decent G6's (VFs). The Halfcrowns were worn, but one was 1911, a less common date. Also a nice 1929 3d and 6d and a practically uncirculated 1922 and 1925 3d. There was also 2 or 3 nice shillings. I added the EF 1948 Halfcrown (An upgrade in Cupronickel) and the good times brass jeton (19th century brass imitation of a George III spade guinea) as I thought they were pretty cool. Reviving this thread for '21 Just two more, but pretty nice 2 more.   1906 Halfcrown in VF condition, an upgrade on an existing coin I own. It was well under $100, imagine how much more it would have cost if it was one year earlier?   A 1901 Penny in EF with some lustre, another nice upgrade on an average coin. Lets hope 2021 bring more classic British coins for all of you. |
