1973-D Kennedy Half; Doubled "half Dollar"

Jaobler Pillar of the Community United States 6399 Posts	Posted 05/25/2007 6:41 pm Regarding the 1974-D Kennedy double die: I knew about the high value listed in the Red Book for this coin and so when a fellow member of my local coin club offered me a BU example for $29 I snapped it up. I sent it to NGC and they slabbed it as MS64 with the doubled die attribution on the label. I eventually got tired of it (it's not a very dramatic DD, after all!) and put it up for auction on Teletrade. It sold for about $65 as I recall. Not a super rarity, but definitely worth a premium! During several years of on-again, off-again roll searching I've found dozens of 1964 Kennedys and maybe a couple hundred silver-clads (including a 1970-S proof), plus a few Franklins and Walkers. I've found exactly one of the 1974-D double die halves. It doesn't appear to be a common coin. Report this Post to the Staff
