Because of yesterday's find for me. I now have a complete roll of twelve sided nickel.

Picked up 23 rolls of pennies at the bank today. Best finds were a 1949 and 1952 Canadian and a 1950D Wheat cent. Also found a handful of high MS grade 2012 cents and a really nice 1966. Went through all the cents I had pulled from 1990-1996 and made full rolls for 1992-1996 of higher grade coins. Have about half a roll of 1991 and a handful from 1990.

Bored and can't sleep so I counted up how many penny rolls I've gone through to date. The one main source of variation which I cannot account for is the bags of cents which are supposed to be roughly $25 or 50 rolls but I know they actually can vary in weight by over 1 pound. I'm just counting them as 50 rolls each.
To give a sense of how difficult it is to find George V Canadian Small Cents (1920-1936) in circulation I have searched through 2606 rolls (130 300 pennies) and have found 7 George V cents (1920, 1929, 1931, 1932, 1934, 1935, 1936). Roughly 1 George V for every 7 1/2 boxes.

I pulled some mintage numbers off the RCM website and punched them into excel. There were 124,820,687 George V small cents minted of a total small cent mintage of 35,174,803,670. This represents 0.354858234%. My findings of 7 of 130,300 represents 0.005372218%. Which means that in the pool of coins I have searched there is approximately 1 George V available for every 66 which were originally minted. I'm not sure how many pennies would need to be searched to get enough George V's to generate reasonably accurate findings. I am hoping I can search 1 million pennies but they very well may run out before that number is reached.

Don't be discouraged by the low % of KGV coins, even with ppl still turning pennies in - since I started CRH just over a year ago I've searched close to 50 boxes of pennies, including stocking up on 23 just before the End date, and I also have a teller who would rather keep selling to me than send them out herself. I haven't kept accurate numbers as you have, but I know I have found less than one roll altogether, but keep hope for the good ones - someone was nice enough to roll up a rare 1924 for me..

Has the value of better date canadian pennies increased any since the penny was discontinued? Logic would tell me it should since an unknown percentage that accidentally make it into circulation over time will get sucked up by the mint, thereby depleting already low numbers, even if only slightly

Picked up 35 rolls of pennies at one bank and 20 rolls at another. Starting to keep the 1965's now to check for varieties. Found a 1941, 1942, 1945, 1946(2), 1947ML, 1949, 1955 and a 1958 with mint lustre. Found 3 wheat cents and a nice 1959 Lincoln.

Did another box of quarters today and 10 rolls of dimes. I hate searching dimes, they're just so small. I keep saying I'm going to stop doing dimes and then another silver pops out! That's 1x1967 and 1x1949 in the last $300. Sorry no pictures but the '67 looked almost new and the '49 was in a lot better shape than the one we had in our binder. Still hitting about 1 silver Q for every 3 boxes and pulling out other interesting things as I go along. I've been finding some pretty high quality coins in the past year; I think so many people have turned in their jars of change with the 'end' of the 1c and we're seeing hordes of coins that were tossed in the bucket went they were brand new.

Picked up 4 boxes and 25 rolls of pennies at the banks today. Went through the 25 rolls with notable finds being a 1955 and 2 wheat cents. I'm really excited about at least one of the boxes because I see 2 rock doves and 3 George VI's including a 1943 peeking out from the ends that I can see.

I just 'happened' upon this thread. So you guys are saying that you can still get cents from banks there in Canada? I had thought that they were gathereing them in for shipment back to the RCM (or wherever they are going to smelt them). Last year I called a few banks in Windsor to see if I could buy a box. I finally found one bank (not sure which one it was anymore) that said that if I ordered a box they would have it waiting for me. Unfortunately I never had the chance to do that. I had thought that that was the last opportunity I had to find some better graded cents from the 60's to current. I find lots of Canadian cents in change here (Detroit area) but haven't seen any from 2005 and up. I am planning on going to Windsor soon to buy coins at the Canada Post stores, and if the banks still issue cents then I may stop in a few of those too to see what I can get.

You can certainly try to get cents in Canada although most people seem to not have any luck with the banks giving them up.
Went through box 1 of 4. Best find was a 1932 George V which was mixed in with a roll of mostly US cents. That makes 8 found in total and I'm hoping for more today. Found a 1949, 1953, 1957, 1958(2), and a 1959. Also found a 1973 one cent from Trinidad and Tobago and 4 more wheat cents.

I couldn't wait any longer so I opened the roll with a 1943 on the end (first roll of box 2). Finds from the roll: 1933, 1936, 1939, 1940(4), 1941, 1943(2), 1945(3), 1946(9), 1947ML, 1949(2), 1950(3), 1951(5), 1952, 1953(2), 1955(2), 1956, 1957(6), 1958, 1959(4). One 58 and one 59 have nice mint lustre.
That makes 10 George V's found to date.

And now for the rest of the results from Box 2! Three more George V's - 1921, 1931, 1933. 1938(4), 1939(3), 1940(23), 1941(8), 1942(18), 1943(15), 1944(3), 1945, 1946(14), 1947, 1947ML(5), 1948, 1949(2), 1950(3), 1951(6), 1952(10), 1953(7), 1955(5), 1956(9), 1957(15), 1958(7), 1959(10). Seven of those had some luster: 1946(4), 1951, 1952, 1959. Found 7 wheat cents from the 40's and 50's. Whoever this guy was he really liked 1967 cents. I found 271 1967's including 124 with various levels of luster.
15 George V's found to date. 2 more boxes to go in this batch.
