I believe they were both in pre-shaped rolls (each box had 45-48 pre-shaped rolls, then the rest were either paper rolled or wrappers). I had to push on the end to tilt/angle the coins so they could come out.

Today's nickel finds. The 1927 I needed for my book. the 1966 is the nicest I have ever seen, too bad for the queen's face

Good luck CoinHunterCoh! It wasn't easy at first (needed a lot of negotiation for just a couple of rolls) but when I visited the bank a lot and the tellers know that I'm coin roll hunting and collecting, they were pretty helpful!
I couldn't get an UK penny in a roll, soulchief. Whoever did that must have been trying way too hard.
Congrats, wolfman-11! My oldest roll find so far is 1960, so seeing older coins getting found is awesome! I'm also wondering about those scratches on the obverse, most of the nickel nickels and quarters have that. Dimes not so much but then I don't search dimes much. I wonder why?

Found these in rolls today. I just bought a 1960 this afternoon because I figured I wouldn't find one

Quote: I'm also wondering about those scratches on the obverse, most of the nickel nickels and quarters have that. Dimes not so much but then I don't search dimes much. I wonder why? It's an artifact of older automatic coin-rolling machines. The coins are scratched in order to somehow get them into position. I have never seen one in action, though. The old ones would create a big straight scratch - I have an excellent 1964 nickel with about 10 of these on it. Newer more refined models (still in use today! I found a 2014 loonie with this damage) create a circular scratch.

Two silver in a roll? Amazing! They don't look half bad either, it's in nicer condition than both my quarters. Well, at least you have 2 1960s now! No harm having 1 extra silver coin nalaberong, you got me curious now - I want to see how a coin rolling machine works. My best guess is that there's some metal stick that pulls the coin into the correct position but it also scratches it at the same time. I'll try looking into it tomorrow and see if I can find anything. I have a 1986 dime with 10 of these straight scratches on the obverse, and more than 7 on the reverse plus a circular scratch. Poor dime.

The silver was in roll 2 and 4 out of about 8 rolls. Also found a couple of mounties, 4 red Laura Secord and 3 plain, a red Cindy Klassen, 2 blue orcas. There was a nice 1992 Yukon, about 10 US coins and quite a few mint state olympic coins to replace some in my book.

I don't search more than 1 or 2 quarter rolls at the same time because they are $10 each, even though a single roll could last me a couple of weeks. It seems silver quarters are the most common silver to find to me, I have 2 as of now and no other silver. I mostly roll search nickels - $2 for 40 coins to search.
Are the mounties in good condition? I have 4 of them, all with the big straight scratch on the queen.
I have about $25 in steel commemoratives now. I hardly get any coins which aren't steel, but whenever I do get one it's usually one worth keeping.

The Mounties are OK, I think I have only found 1 really nice one even though I have a roll and a half now. If you want to post a list in the want list section just so we know, I will be sure to keep some aside for you in the future. It is good to see a person of your age having such an interest in something other than "current fads". By the way I saw your 2003 w loonie at DeviantArt. Nice find. I remember playing Castlevania almost 30 years ago. I'd be happy to help. I mentioned to my daughter that there are a few young people on this forum that are getting good finds at the bank, and she offered to try to charm the tellers in order to get me pennies.

A roll and a half? That's a lot! Good thing the Mint hasn't gotten them back yet side 1973. All are small bust? I guess my collecting coins now had started really early. I used to have a hoarding habit when I was younger and I kept just about everything. Then I got bored of them and ignore them and my mom will throw them out. In Indonesia there were two types of circulating coinage, the "yellow" and the "white". The yellow is an older issue and rarer (and much heavier!) so my hoarder side goes: "yellow -> rare -> must keep". I have half a can of assorted Indonesian coinage (my own collection dates back to the '70s, I have some gifted to me which are from the '40s) but it's half the earth away now. Eventually I grew fond of them, I would take them out of the can, play with them, count them, sort them out by year, sort by how nice they are, and others. The amount of commemoratives in Canada just gives me new interest in collecting I've never followed "current fads" anyway. I know current events by reading the newspaper back in Indonesia. No newspaper here. Looking through a friend's change, I got the loonie. Because I keep looking at others' change, some people think I'm a looney. I think we need a smiley of someone waving their finger in a circular motion around their head saying "crazy". Also found my '63 quarter, my first silver, in someone else's change. I think I just keep getting the new change. At least they're shiny and not gunky. Funny you mentioned Castlevania now, I just finally beat Galamoth. I've been having some good luck with banks. I posted most of them in this thread earlier. Plus the $1 and $2 bills, but they don't come in a roll so they're not in this thread. Also the fact that they agreed to sell me 2 boxes of pennies, I guess it's a good idea to tell your tellers you are a coin collector who is roll hunting.

When you go back home, there are a few years I would like you to look for if you are up for a trade.

It won't be until almost July, but I'll definitely take a look at them. After all, what better way to spend a couple of jetlagged days than to look at coins?

Searched another $100 in quarters. Found a 1983 and 4 more mounties. Some war of 1812 and arctic expedition in excellent shape. The strangest thing was the amount of 1992 provinces, 2000 months and olympic coins in perfect shape. If I hadn't pulled them out of the roll I would have thought they were mint. they are worthy of putting in folders for future trades.

More small bust mounties? Keep them anyway You get coins of surprising niceness in rolls. I've found red 60s and 70s pennies from rolls.
