Just went through a FED box - 2 1968 silver clads and a nice white 1969 clad. Also, Found a beat up 1977 S proof, but nothing more. I really miss the boxes of three years ago!

I just bought 14 rolls from the bank and ended up with 32 silvers..yaaaaay...and 6 were 1964 no Ds. 3 franklins and a Two Shillings from 1941,,pretty odd there..

Any major varieties to look for worth a nice premium before I roll the remaining coins back up to trade in for more?

Hello all,

I've been a lurker here for a while now. Some of your stories inspired me to give CRHing a chance, and thought it would be good to share my stats. Since August I have gone through a few hand rolls and 30 Brinks boxes of halves ordered through Washington Mutual (now Chase!). With 30 boxes behind me ($15,000 worth of halves) I feel like I have a decent statistical sampling for how the Brinks boxes pay out, at least here in Houston:

40% - 113 coins (0.363% or 1 out of 275 coins - a little better than 3 per box)
90% Kennedy - 44 coins (0.142% or 1 out of 707 coins - 4 in 3 boxes)
Franklins - 5 coins (0.016% or 1 out of 6,220 coins - 1 in 6 boxes)
Walkers - 2 coins (0.006% or 1 out of 15,550 coins -- 1 in 15 boxes)
1987s - 4 (0.013% or 1 out of 7,776 coins - 1 in 8 boxes)
Proofs - 4 (0.013% or 1 out of 7,776 coins - 1 in 8 boxes)

Only two boxes were skunk and my best box had 16 40% and 7 90% Kennedys, 1 Ben and 1 Walker.

Remarkably, I was not able to complete a full set of Kennedy halves, even when I accepted a few beat-up coins from the 90s. In the entire set of over 30,000 coins, I have found NO examples of a 2003-P, 2007-D or 2008-P. No 1970-D, either, but that wasn't a surprise. I also found 2 Panamanian Medio Balboas, 1 Colon from El Salvador, 50 Centavos from Ecuador, a 10 Peso piece from Mexico, and a guitar pick.

I am estimating about 40 hours spent on this project. I also burned some gas, bought 3 folders to make a set, and ordered a heaping stack of half dollar wrappers, so assume $65 invested. At today's silver melt values I figure the effort pays out at $9/hr. That's low but like people say, what other hobbies pay you?

I searched another box today. No silver, no proofs, no NIFC's. Nothing.

wileyz, I have searched a 1/3 of what you did, your overall percentages aren't much different from mine. But I have had more skunks than you with today's box.

Wow, wileyz, great information. And WELCOME!

I just got $14 from two branches today and scored 4 40% silver pieces, so 4 out of 28.

And, of course, did the guitar pick replace a half?

Hey wileyz -

Welcome!

I must say that my finds are right about in line with yours. I have searched about the same amount as you - probably more in the 15 - 20 k range searched. I found more 40%s - about 170 or so, but only about 30 90%ers.

4 walkers, probably about 10 bennies, 1 1987 and probably about 10 proofs.

However, I must say, I haven't calculated what it would have paid me per hour, but it was a hell of a lot of fun! And to top it all off I got my dad hooked, and it creates a little father son time on top of all the great finds!

Keep it up, I will let you know how my next batch goes, I have one coming in tomorrow.

Happy Hunting!

Are you guys who report similar outcomes getting Fed rolls, Brinks rolls, or hand rolls? I was wondering if I switched banks and tried Fed rolls if the outcome would be different. I know some of you report great finds in hand rolls but hand rolls in Houston are hard to find and always seem to be dumps... I have even tried small towns 100 miles out that have only one bank... Usually they are kind enough to alert me that the rolls there are dumps.

CoppernickelDaddy - I wondered about the guitar pick too. But it did not replace a half... there was still $10 in the roll. I was probably more surprised by the 10 peso piece because it isn't even round--it's a hideous seven-sided polygon with a portrait of William Hurt:
