Hi, I'm not really an ancient coin collector, but I picked these up.can anyone tell me anything about them, whos on them, year, composition. Thanks in advance
The first one is supposed to be a silver tetradrachm of Alexander the Great, I have no idea what the second one is supposed to be. The are both recent cast fakes though.
Thanks guys, picked them up at a flea market from a couple of sweet older ladies for $2 hoped they were real but didn't really expect it. Well it was more fun than buying a lottery ticket and I still have something to show for it ( unlike a lottery ticket)
It's to bad that they are reproductions, not so much for any financial gain, (I'm okay with that too) but it would be amazing to have something that's been through who knows how many hands through the centuries . I might just have to get into ancient coins. Thanks everyone Dan

This is what got me into ancient coins. There are plenty of real examples that are available for the price you paid.
My LCS has a lot of about 100 roman coins that I pick through occasionally. I started with the nicest examples and am moving to the more worn items. I pay them $2 a coin... well worth it in my mind. It is fun working to identify them
