Just got this from a friend at the bank, 640k run... if only it was uncirculated

Nice find. Personally I find a circulated note to be much more interesting ... who knows where it's been (and not in a bad way)

Stever - Maybe $150 wasn't such a bad price!

Just looking for a little education here...Why in the world did that $1 star note sell for $162.00? What made it so special? I am assuming a very short run on these?

Quote: Why in the world did that $1 star note sell for $162.00? What made it so special? I am assuming a very short run on these? Supply and Demand is the easy answer. My belief on modern stars and key notes is that most collectors want an example from each District. If series 2013 has a super low SF run, but other large runs exist for SF, then the KC star will look to be the tough District. The same thing happened for series 2009. There was an extremely low NY* print run (32,000) and that was overshadowed by the H* (320,000) because if you wanted every District, NY was easy and St.Louis was tough. Star note "run" collectors see it differently. Quote: Stever - Maybe $150 wasn't such a bad price! You're right Mr.Frog....I ended up paying $100

Okay, I'm back! First successful upload in 10 days. That's a lousy image of a beautiful star I bought last week, nice AU. I know it doesn't have much appeal to you youngsters.

Way to go bud.
Classic portrait in center with Columbus sighting land to the left. The border on this note is interesting, especially the corners. Classic Large Size USN Ace, AND , its a Star note. Very very nice Mr.Frog

Thanks, Stever, sigh of relief here.
There is actually a full top border on this note with RAZOR sharp corners, not at all apparent on this lousy scan. Top border is thin but complete (apparent horizontal slashes do not exist) and well within tolerance for this issue, which along with the USN $2s and $5s of the era are notorious for their tight margins.

Coinfrog - try slipping a piece of paper behind the note when you scan it. I have found my scanner doesn't pick up the edges too well when in a plastic holder.
By the way, Super nice note you got there!

The border I spoke of is the engraved border, and not the margin.

Today my old man got a 2013 1 star note. I promptly traded him for it. It is from a run of 3,200,000 so it is a spender. The serial number ends with 001 so it was the top bill on the strap which I thought was cool.

Stever - Got it. Yes, the engraver's margin is quite remarkable on these notes.
The picture quality is not very good, but it's better than nothing. It's about the best I can do using the new Photo Optimizer, but I will try to investigate some of the off-site optimizing options next.
KevininFla - Thanks for that suggestion and welcome to the forum.
