Just went to my LCS to buy twenty halves. A mix of 1964 Kennedys, Franklins, and Walkers. Charged $23 x face. Quarters and dimes were at 22.5 x face. Briefly chatted with the shop owner and he told me business was very good, with plenty of buying and selling. He attributed it to the current state of the market and the aging population of his town. Lots of people selling off coin collections of their deceased family members.

Stopped by an LCS today...said he wanted 26x for dimes and quarters and 28x for halves...ouch! I've got a half of roll of 64 Kennedy's that I'd like to finish up but no way am I going to pay 28x, especially when silver has gone down lately!

Local coin shop is asking 23.5x for dimes and quarters, 24x for halves.
Local coin show today one guy had 90% at 21x, another at 22x, and then it was 24x or higher.

Quote: 28x face is almost $40 an ounce. Yep...might as well buy overpriced ASEs at that price level!

Wow I figured online prices in Canada were high for both 999 silver coins or our old 80% silver. A dealer wants $255 for $10 of 80%. I'm between 3-6 hrs from a lcs. So have to watch for online deals. In a post I just made premiums for most bullion coins can be $8:50-$12. I haven't been in the hobby/stacking for 4-5 years and was shocked at the changes, especially for high mintage bullion. It used to be for coins with less than 500,000 coins were more expensive, especially if a popular design! I'm looking for a hedge. So I started bullion in January. I'm feeling like I need to relearn, what I thought I knew.

Numerous dealers are reporting high demand for silver/gold. As we know, premiums have been going up, especially since the pandemic. For 90% junk, one dollar face is .about .723 oz silver, but to figure silver cost I use what some dealers say .715 oz accounting for wear. So at $23x divided by .715 that's $32.16 per ounce silver. Are there other/better ways to calculate this?
Maybe it's time we don't call it junk anymore at these prices. Some prefer calling it Constitutional silver. My prior 90% purchase had mostly AU coins, little wear. Yesterday I bought some more but I'd say 1/3 had significant wear. It depends what my LCS has in stock.

CalzoneManiac, Thanks for the cost list. It appears that's using the full amount about .723 oz silver per face. My LCS uses .715 assuming some wear.
I checked my records. In 2018 I bought halves and quarters for only $11.10 to $12.90 face. Wish I had bought a lot more!
