Hello To Everyone,

I am a brand new member and so far I have found your site and the forums to be very interesting. But I need some information. I'm not sure if you would call me a collector yet, but I do have a lot of old coins that I have recently started looking through.

My question has arisen because I found a coin that I can find no printed or other information about and I have never noticed one like it before.

I'm sure it's probably just because I never really bothered to look, but would like to find out for sure if maybe it's an actual error.

The coin is a 1972D Lincoln Cent, but in the field to the right of Lincoln's bust, I found a very clear portrait of JFk facing Lincoln.
Is this an anomaly or have I just not noticed it before and why can I not find anything written about it? Is it some kind of commemorative they minted that year or what?

I would appreciate any information anyone can give me. I just found it very odd as I have never seen another coin like it.

Thanks to everyone. Have a great day!

Hi Paradise, welcome to CCF.

The Lincioln cent you speak of was a novelty item made by stamping the JFK head into a normal cent after it was made. There were quite a few of them made, and also with other themes, like a pipe being smoked (by Lincoln), the 50 states (etc). They sold for about a dollar when then came out in the 1970s and have some small value today, but really not much.

I found this answer on the net with a google search. I have seen them, they are neat, but definitely not an error.

paradise,

I find it extremely amusing that you started this post today, because yesterday as I was searching through some penny rolls from the bank, I found a 72 with Kennedy on it. It was a neat find, and the timing of your post is ironic too!

I don't have any way to post a picture at this time. I don't have access to a scanner and I tried taking a digital picture, but the portrait doesn't show up. Sorry.

Thanks for the info! Learn something new everyday!
