Has anyone inquired of their rep the reason for the 4month lag time?

Considering if the gold coin is already sold out, I'd wonder what type of future marketing campaign RCM might entertain. It would poorly reflect to promote a coin that they know is unavailable for sale, defeats the purpose of advertising.

They promote sold out coins all the time on social media. They get lots of negative comments too. lol

I'd also expect them to have a media splash on Thursday/Friday (there is a Gala Thursday evening in Ottawa to be attended by Shatner) that includes all of the coins, including the gold.

They likely developed the marketing strategy months ago long before the gold coins were even offered.

Get them into the tent with the gold coin they can't have and sell them the silver coins we do have...?

I don't see a downside, I like the coin. ebay will tell the tale for the flippers 30 days before the coin is even shipped.

The silliest thing is when I get an email asking me to write a review on a coin that has been sold out for weeks at RCM.

Like....,what is that all about?

Does their website have any clue what it is generating?

On Monday, while listening to 1010 am radio in my car, the news hour promoted the RCM new Star Trek coins and talked about William Shatner attending the gala in Ottawa.

I am sure that the RCM received many inquiries as well as dealers.

Would this be a paid advertisement news flash or just actual reporting on what is happening at the Mint later this week? Who knows!

I guess some people are assuming that the RCM and Canada Post will be the only ones producing the Star Trek products. A quick Google search and I could see the US Postal Service will be releasing Star Trek stamps later this year. Is another mint going to have Star Trek coins too? With the release of the coin being so far in the future, it really is a gamble that the RCM gold coin will be the one and only that the Trekkies will all want. You never know, a 14K gold product at the actual size and half the price may have more appeal. Time will tell.

The stamps by US Post only depict generic Star Trek things like a stylized starship, Spock's Vulcan salute, a Starfleet Insignia. The name Star Trek is not even on the stamps. Also, no actual pictures of the actors or scenes of the movie. Of course, no living person can be on a stamp or coin in the US.

As for another mint, Perth Mint already did the Star Trek theme. And the US Mint not do issue commercialized coins like Disney coins or Star Wars or Star Trek.

Does anyone know whether that US$1,299 gold coin is sold or not on ebay? I did not watch it and it was gone. Now, there is no more gold coin on ebay.

Reportedly sold yesterday.

Check tomorrow (or late night tonight). It's possible, though unlikely, that some will show up on mint.ca on the May 13th release date. As well, some dealers might give you a chance to buy at issue tonight/tomorrow...if you are quick.

Apparently William Shatner visited the Royal Canadian Mint's Ottawa facility today, and struck a silver collector coin in honour of the 50th anniversary of @StarTrek

The RCM has now released the Star Trek coins to the public. Gold emblem does not come up unless you do a search and of course it states "wait list".

For sure the dealers will list the Gold coin, at least the one for the issue price.
Whoever want couple of hundreds $$ in couple of minutes - do not hesitate, and continuously check the websites.

I don't think we will be seeing this coin for issue price again... thought there might have been a handful on the mint site this evening, nope.

It is on the website under "new releases" on the second page. That almost certainly means it is sold out.

Plenty of press releases are posted all over the web too.

And now for some official pics.
