1956 Franklin Type 2 Proof? - Coin Community Forum

QE45 Valued Member United States 67 Posts	Posted 08/28/2016 4:13 pm I just learned there are 2 types of 1956 Franklins. So I checked on my 1956 proof set and this looks like Type 2 to me. Yes, some proof dies were used for business strikes and can carry a premium, similar to the Type B reverse Washington quarters. The Type 1 eagle has four indistinct feathers while the Type 2 eagle has three strong feathers. Type 1 is the intended business strike design while the Type 2 design is intended for proofs 1956-63. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 08/30/2016 9:06 pm Here is my updated information: The 1958 and 1959 business strike coins (no Denver ones) we affected. The Type 1 is the normal coins with for feather tips in the left wing. The Type 2 are the re-used proof dies for the reverse dies on the halves. (similar as "Bio" mentioned for the quarter reverses) Report this Post to the Staff
