@jimper, you are correct that the first Big Coin series had more singles than sets but the RCM seem to have adopted a different marketing strategy for this new set. All of the dealers had plenty of single for the first set. I remember dealers like Colonial Acres and Gatewest Coins had lots of singles for each coin. Even Canadian Coin & Currency had singles. But CC&C did not have any singles this time. We should see on Tuesday how many singles are available at the big dealers.

The first big coin series the RCM kind of fibbed they advertised only 250 sets with the bonus box, didn't make it out of the tier mc, week or so latter Canadian Coin offered same sub, massive numbers same box and a bonus yearly set to boot.

Mi mistake, Jimper
You right. For the first Big Coin sub (and maybe for the second), the amount of the subscriptions has been mentioned. Thank you for correction.
While re-reading old posts, I found interesting info: in the midnight of the public release, CC&C listed the first coin (Big Gold Plated 50z Loonie).
Lets, see :)
Btw, appearance of the Silver Dollar on TSC turned me bit off. No, the coin is still beautiful, but I do not like, when the items distributed by "Buy channel" . So...now really on the fence. Probably going to pass and wait for some 2017 beautiful anniversary coin that not commissioned. Really "on the fence" with this purchase.....also Canada Post - they probably will have a lot of singles.

Subscription sets through RCM yes, but..... Quote:

The 2015 series was commissioned, therefore RCM only sold a portion.

Quote: I think it is the reverse. Probably 1500 as sets and the rest as singles. Practically all the dealers are pushing the coins as a set rather than as singles. Even the Coin Shoppe is selling the coins as a subscription. They don't have any singles.
All of the dealers had plenty of single for the first set. I remember dealers like Colonial Acres and Gatewest Coins had lots of singles for each coin. Even Canadian Coin & Currency had singles. But CC&C did not have any singles this time. I also believe that the RCM has adopted a different marketing strategy for this new set. My guess is 2/3 sets and 1/3 singles this time. Just speculation. If so, then I believe this Goose coin will be a winner. I've never seen "Single coin sold out before official launch!" at CC&C. They commissioned them, so why no singles available through CC&C? "Sold Out" at CC&C means "Sold Out" from my experience. Only at TSC does he offer singles (or not...we'll see). Gatewest might have the 5% discount on this coin this week, and no tax for buyers in B.C.... Colonial Acres, also no tax for B.C., should have some as well. Looks like I was one of the few lucky ones to get a single Goose coin from the Mint. I feel like a mouse scurrying around in a maze trying to make sense of this marketing strategy. That's probably what they want (cat torturing mouse). lol

It seems to me there are many people buying this coin strictly because of the hype. Some people, buying multiple coins, fuels the fire. These may make a few bucks on the short term but 20 years from now, probably not as much. By then there will be countless big coin series or mini series or single 5 oz coins that will make these get lost in a sea of silver. The rate the market is being flooded at, not just from the RCM but all mints, will truly affect the hobby. The way I'm looking at it, is I'll try to find the coins I really like at a discount down the road. This set is certainly one of the finest the RCM has displayed lately and each coin would be more than happily welcomed into my collection. But not at the price. And not worth the trouble of tracking them down due to a sellout before hitting the (low life level) platinum tier. There will positively be no shortage of coins to choose from between now and this time next year. I'm sure we will all get something we truly enjoy here or there in the meantime, but my new theory is "certainly not above issue for any coins" from now on. I think most would agree, all in all, the original '67 designs were cool. I'm just glad the they were recognized for that 50 years later with the release of this set. You kind of must have the penny for this set, although I got to say I'm not too happy the farewell only lasted 4 years. Does anybody have thoughts on the original 5oz silver penny based on what seems to be a new specific theme, being circulation(ish) style coins as 5oz NCLT?

They are even giving away some of them away, like the RCM did with the Maple Shaped coins. Look at the hype involving the gold plated Inukshuk, the Cherry Blossom, and the glow in the dark Coral Reef. Lot of hype involving those coins and now they can be bought at issue or less.

I believe these will hold their value better than most others issued lately.
