harpua New Member United States 30 Posts	Posted 11/22/2016 10:17 pm Stumbled across this one looking through some bulk coins I had set aside. Any thoughts on if this is a DD or just Machine Doubling? Check out the left side, the 'P' in pfennig. The "deu", the dot and a bit on the 1. Sorry for the rough pictures, hopefully they give enough detail. Report this Post to the Staff

Buddy Rest in Peace United States 7075 Posts	Posted 11/22/2016 10:49 pm It appears to be flat and shelf-like so I would say it's Mechanical Doubling. Nice old coin. It's showing some damage from use but still looks good for its age. Report this Post to the Staff

Buddy Rest in Peace United States 7075 Posts	Posted 11/23/2016 8:19 pm That dot had me staring at it for a long time. Is it flat or rounded? It isn't always to see that in a photo. Either way -- it is interesting. Are there any known doubled dies reported for that coin? Report this Post to the Staff
harpua New Member United States 30 Posts	Posted 11/24/2016 06:40 am The dot and the 'D' do appear a bit rounded, but only slightly, the rest of the doubling is flatter. I do suspect it's just mechanical, but it was kind of a neat find regardless. I would love to find a resource on varieties in this series. I have quite a few in this series.
