1963-D Jefferson Nickel Error (Double Struck?)

Gula1 New Member United States 34 Posts	Posted 02/11/2017 03:46 am Hello, Found a 1963-D Nickel with an unusual weak impression on the obverse. If you look to the left of Jefferson's forehead and the word "Trust" you can see what kind of looks like the reverse of a Wheat cent? Upon further examination I realized its somewhat visible throughout the whole obverse of the coin? I couldn't make out the design or the inscription entirely. Could this be an error? It would be impossible for it to be a Wheat cent, to say nothing of the five year gap. Obviously, there is no UNITED STATES OF AMERICA impression on Jefferson's face, so the Wheat cent would have had to been struck first. However, as a nickel planchet is larger than a what cent collar, it would not have fit and been struck without major planchet damage. Report this Post to the Staff
Buddy Rest in Peace United States 7075 Posts	Posted 02/11/2017 11:01 am I can see what you're seeing but the scratches on the east side of the coin seem too small, the scratches on the west side seem too large, and neither has the correct curve to match the Wheat cent. Those are just some very deceptive scratches. Your coin seems to have some environmental damage so I'd say it just got beat up. Report this Post to the Staff
