Hey Jbedwell, it's pretty hard to tell, but I am leaning towards not full steps. It's certainly a nice looking nickel at least. The folks in the modern grading subforum may be able to give you more input.

From what I understand, that hit above the I in monticello excludes this coin from recieving a FS designation

Yep that gouge puts it out of the running and a few other problems there. Best I can see is maybe 4 steps with those pics. Nice nickel though. Keep it. Don't stick it in a parking meter.

Sadly, I think not. Curious that you just ran across this. In the past week,

I've found similar '62D,'63 & '65. The 61D is tied for 3rd, as the most difficult to

run across. Less than a handful have been graded 65FS. I dont recall the Philly version.
