Quote: Here's an interesting piece. 1992 Poland 50000 Zlotych, commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the Order of Virtuti Militari, Latin for Military Virtue. Poland's highest military decoration for heroism and courage in the face of the enemy at war. It was created in 1792 by Polish King Stanislaw II August and is one of the oldest military decorations in the world still in use. Coin is an eight sided octagon in shape. 32mm across, cupro-nickel.
Very nice indeed, and very different as a coin, I havent seen anything like it in modern coinage.

On July 5th I posted the "W" mint marked Proof 2011 September 11th memorial medal and although this is technically a medal. I need to put my second one here with my "W". Now I have the set.2011 P and W Proof Silver September 11th US Mint National Medals.

A 1 lira piece from San Marino commemorating F.A.O. (the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations): I think F.A.O. is the most commemorated thing amongst the coins I own, totaling up to nineteen coins. But nineteen is nothing compared to the total amount of F.A.O. coins—Numista lists over three hundred circulating ones. But oddly enough, even though it seems Canada will commemorate absolutely anything on the coins they produce, they have yet to issue one for F.A.O..

Is it possible that FAO coins were only produced by developing countries? It seems like most F.A.O. coins are/were produced by developing countries, but not all. Spain, Portugal, Poland, and Italy are a few who have issued some, for example. Plus San Marino—the place where the one I posted was from.
